Life and Career
Mesure was born in Somerset, England on August 12, 1970. He moved to Sydney, Australia when he was just five years old. Mesure attended Newington College from 1982 to 1987, and graduated from the National Institute of Dramatic Art with a degree in Performing Arts (Acting) in 1995.
After graduation, Mesure moved to New Zealand where he soon picked up a few acting roles. Mesure has acted, directed, designed and written over thirty productions for the Sydney University Drama Society while studying law. In 1998, Mesure was nominated for the Best Actor New Zealand Television Award for his work as Ryan Waters on the New Zealand soap opera City Life, and won the Best Supporting Actor award for his work as Kees Van Damm on the New Zealand drama Street Legal in 2003.
Mesure has had roles on the television series: A Twist in the Tale, Bones, Cold Case, Crossing Jordan, Ghost Whisperer, Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, Las Vegas, Stacked, Without a Trace, Xena: Warrior Princess, and has appeared in the films: Boogeyman and Mee-Shee: The Water Giant. Mesure auditioned for the role of James "Sawyer" Ford on the ABC hit drama Lost, but didn't get the role. He appeared as Bryan in the thirteenth episode of the first season, however. In 2009, Mesure was cast Kyle Hobbes on the ABC remake of the television series V. Originally a guest star, he was promoted to regular in season 2. V was cancelled after two seasons in 2011. Mesure also appeared in the New Zealand dramas: Outrageous Fortune and This Is Not My Life between 2009 and 2010.
After V's cancellation, Mesure joined the final season cast of Desperate Housewives as Ben Faulkner, a ruthless self-made contractor who shares a connection with Renee Perry. Afterwards, Mesure made guest appearances on Burn Notice and The Mentalist. In February 2014, Mesure was cast as the pirate Black Beard on Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz's Once Upon a Time. He's also had roles on Blue Bloods, Castle, Criminal Minds, Girlfriend's Guide to Divorce and voiced the Beast in The Magicians.
In April 2016, Mesure joined the cast of Freeform's Dead of Summer as Boyd Heelan. This served as a reunion with Kitsis and Horowitz and actresses: Elizabeth Lail and Elizabeth Mitchell. Mitchell starred alongside Mesure on V, and appeared on Once Upon a Time and Lost. Lail played the niece of Mitchell's character on Once Upon a Time, and interacted with Mesure's character in the ninth episode of the fourth season.
